Bear Lake is Great for Camping and Fishing

Bear Lake is a 107 acre recreation area and artificial lake created in 1959 with the construction of an earthen dam across Bear Creek. Open to fishing in 1961 and restocked in 1972 with largemouth bass, sunshine bass, bluegill, red-ear sunfish( shellcracker ), and channel cat.

The lake is located in northeast Santa Rosa county in the Blackwater River State Forest about 2 miles east of Munson. Take I-10 east of Pensacola to exit 26, go north through Bagdad to Milton. Stay on that road through the Hwy. 90 red light to the stop sign. Turn right go to next stop sign, and turn left. Continue on that street about 1/2 mile to the next stop sign and turn right onto Munson Hwy. Follow this highway about 15 miles to the stop sign in Munson. Turn right and go about 2 miles and you will see the brown sign on the left, follow to the lake.

They have a dual launch boat ramp with plenty of parking. Remember that outboard use is not allowed on this lake. There is a handicapped accessible fishing pier near the ramps. Here you can also find areas for camping and picnics. Bath and restrooms are provided along with a commons building for large gatherings. Be sure tobring the kids, they'll love it here and take plenty of pictures.


Since there are no bait shops and such present, you will need to bring your own. However, there is a store located at the stop sign when you reach Munson for any sullies you may need. Baits to consider bringing are: Largemouth Bass- shiners, blue or black plastic worms rigged Texas style, and yellow skirted flutter baits. Sunshine Bass - Live threadfin shad, artificial bait like diving baits, feathered jigs, and silver spoons. Bluegill and Shellcracker- crickets and worms are good naturals, white beetle spins that you may consider trolling.


Bear Lake Camping Sites

The camping areas are well shaded and the surroundings are very quiet and peaceful. The camping is on a small hill overlooking the lake for a good view. So, get the gear together, come on down, wet a hook and enjoy your time here. Bear Lake Blackwater camping is great.
