Do you love stock car racing?
Five Flags Speedway and its racing attractions is located on Pine Forest Road
a few miles south of I 10.
The half mile oval track provides great and exciting
racing. The track is high banked with an infield for pit crews. This makes for some very exciting races that last well into the night.
This track is well lighted so you won't miss any of the action. The bleachers are high for a great view. Of course refreshments are served on site to restock the calorie bank.
5 flags speedway first opened on May 31, 1953 that resulted in a 14 car pileup. This was
caused by dusting conditions as a result of the paving problems. The pile up
happened on the first lap ending that days racing.
Two weeks later, Herb Thomas won the Nascar Grand National held at this track. Rain
forced an early end to that race. Lee Petty ran in that race and came in third.
On the first December weekend each year, the track ushers out The Snowball Derby.
The 300 lap derby began some 38 years ago and has become one of the country's leading
events. The first race was won by Wayne Niedecken but the starting pole position was
held by Red Farmer.
The speedway also hosts other events such as musical shows and a meet the drivers night. Call for the latest: 850.944.8400 or 850.944.8421.
Hope you can make it, I'll see you there. on race night. Don't bring the binoculars, you
won't need them.
