Cross The Drawbridge to Fort Barrancas Attractions

Go a half mile east of The Naval Aviation Museum down Taylor Road to Fort Barrancas attractions. Here you can also visit the Water Battery, Visitor Centor, trails, and picnic areas.

There is a half mile trail leading to the Advanced Redoubt, see this too. You'll be glad you took the walk over.

Sitting on a bluff, the fort overlooks the entrance to Pensacola Bay. The British and Spanish both built forts here because of its advantageous position.

The fort went through a remodeling project that to its reopening in 1980. Tours are daily at 2pm, while the Advanced Redoubt tours are Saturdays at 11am.

The visitor center is open March-October at 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and November-February at 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Please call 850-455-5167 for more information.

At the base of the barranca below you'll find the water battery. Included here is a rifle gallery and rear wall added by the US Army engineers. There is also a tunnel connected to Ft. Barrancas.

The Advanced Redoubt, built to protect the Pensacola Navy Yard, is located on the northern side of the peninsula. It was designed entirely for resisting a land based assault. It was part of a defensive network that also included Forts Pickens, McRee, and Barrancas.
