Enjoy the Exhibits at The Pensacola Art Museum
Among the Pensacola Art Museum attractions are works from the 20th and 21st centuries which are the museum's
primary focus. Both modern and contemporary art are featured including paintings, sculptures, and
works on paper. Many noted artists are feratured while the museum also displays works of European
and American glass. There is also displayed African Tribal Art.
The museum is housed in the old Pensacola City Jail, built in 1906. When the building first became
available those interested in creating an art museum snapped it up. It was dubbed the Museum of Art
in 1982, then in 1988 the building was purchased by the PMA. The jail cells were converted into
display rooms.
The permanent displays feature many great artist while there are also exhibits on display for you
to view from time to time. Among the most recent are the Masterpieces of Southern Craft and
Traditional Art, Janet Fish: Light and Transparent Space, and Miguel Zapata: An Eternal Perspective.
The Art Museum also has an Explore and Learn classes on the first and third Saturdays of each month. There
are eight classes and each focuses on a certain aspect of art. The Saturday Workshops are $8 for
members and $10 for Non-members per class. Classes are for ages 6 – 12. Prepaid registration is required
for a guaranteed spot. 1st & 3rd Sat. of the month ending May 16th 1-3 pm. March 21 / April 4 /
April 18 / May 2 / May 16
