Pack Up and Show Up for Pensacola Events

On this page I will tell you about Pensacola Events, Pensacola Festivals, Pensacola Gatherings, and Pensacola Fun things to do. Read along and I'm sure you will find something that interests you. Make your plans to attend and maybe participate in the festivities.

The Pensacola Seafood Festival, September 24 - 26, 2010, will be held in Old Historic Seville in downtown Pensacola. This is one of the best Pensacola events. With 18 different vendors, your taste buds are in for a real treat, bang bang shrimp, grilled conch, seafood gumbo, soft shell crab,oyster croquettes, and much more. There will be an arts and crafts fair featuring 180 or so venders. The Pensacola Seafood Festival offers cooking demonstrations, a 5K run/walk, the Splash Dogs competition, a cost-friendly children’s area, and other activities located in Pensacola News Journal Pelican Park (Bartram Park).

Musical performances by local and regional acts will be held in Fountain Park across from Seville Square. So, lend an ear and find some great entertainment.

An exciting new tourism initiative is being launched by the Escambia County Tourist Development Council. A hotel voucher program will be launched and vouchers will be given to visitors staying overnight in hotels in any part of Escambia County. Details of the promotion and redemption are in development and will be for a limited time only. Information about this voucher program will be posted as soon as details are available.

Pensacola Events Historic Haunted House Walking Tours is a Family favorite for Halloween as the tours are hosted by costumed guides. You will visit some 50 or more historic sites around Pensacola. Great excitement for the kids as well as a learning experience.

Come and Enjoy Our Ghostly White Beaches and Explore Our Haunted History. On September 18 & 19, 2010, you can join the celebrities and investigate Pensacola's haunted history. Join Brad and Barry Klinge of Ghost Lab, Ericka Boussarhane, plus others as they look for answers to the mysteries. I will hopefully be able to join in. Remember that you can attend one of many Pensacola events year round.



If a country setting for good times is what you like, then you must attend the Jay Peanut Festival in Jay, Florida. There will be a great time for all. I will post the date as soon as I know when.

On to more Pensacola events. Let's look at the Pensacola events for February, 2010.

Pensacola Double Bridge Run. Feb. 6. A 15K course takes runners over two bridges crossing Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound, from Downtown Pensacola to Pensacola Beach. Runners and walkers are also welcome at the 5K course and Kids Fun Run. (850) 434-2800, www.pensacolasports.com.

On Feb.12 - 14, 2010 in downtown Pensacola you can enjoy the Mardi Gras parade. It begins at 2pm at the corner of Spring St. and Garden St., check out the map below. It may be cool this time of year so get the weather forecast. There will be plenty of beads and moonpies. For more info call (850) 436-7638. See map below for route.

8. Black History Month. Throughout Feb. Celebrate African-American history. Call the African-American Heritage Society, (850) 469-1299, www.africanamericanheritagesociety.org. Pensacola has a past rich in Black History. Since its beginning in 1559, African-Americans have played a vital role shaping the history and culture of this area. If you decide to visit for this event, there are some must see spots of interest. See a - f below.

a. St. Michael’s Cemetery has been around since the 1700s and is noted as being one of the only cemeteries in the country to have slaves and nobility buried side by side.

b. The Julee Panton Cottage was named after a free African-American who lived here in 1803. Now a part of Pensacola Historic district it will present an idea of life in those days.

c. Fort Pickens masonry walls and earthworks were built by slaves in the mid 19th century. The fort was later occupied by African-American troops during the Civil War.

d. Johnson Beach on Perdido Key named for Rosamond Johnson, Jr., a black Pensacolian who received a Purple Heart for his service in the Korean War. Private Rosamond Johnson, Jr. was killed on July 26, 1950 during the Korean War. Having carried two wounded men to safety under enemy fire, he was killed going back for a third, becoming the first African-American from this area to die in that conflict.

e. Chappie James was a Pensacola native and became the first African-American four star Air Force General.

f. H&O Restaurant has been owned and operated by African-Americans since the 1930s and was a focal point for the black community before integration.

I'll bet you didn't know Pensacola events had so much to offer.

Gulf Coast Renaissance Faire, March 6-7. Step back to the days of old with jousting exhibitions, falconry, medieval musicians, jesters, jugglers, fire breathers, belly dancers, bagpipers and more. (877) 429-8462

McGuire’s Irish Pub St. Patty’s Day 5K Prediction Run, March 13. With more than 5,000 participants, it is Pensacola’s largest run and the nation’s largest prediction run. Awards go to the fastest as well as the most accurate in predicting the time it will take to complete the course. (850) 433-6789

Gallery Night, March 19. Enjoy an evening of arts and culture by touring downtown art galleries open 5-9 p.m., sponsored by the Arts Council of Northwest Florida. (850) 432-9906

March 19-21, 2010 you can attend the Beulah Sausage Festival in Beulah, Florida. I know your whole family will have a great time there. Enjoy some of Nashville’s hottest country music stars, arts and crafts, carnival-style rides and of course, great sausage. (850) 944-3167

Festival on the Green, March 26-27. University of West Florida’s annual spring event features a fine arts and crafts show, dog agility showcase, live music, sporting events, food and a children’s fair. (850) 474-2610.

On April 10 - 11, 2010 you can enjoy the Pensacola Wine Festival in Downtown Pensacola. You can sample over 100 wines from around the world while watching cooking demonstrations from Pensacola's top restaurant chefs. Remember, you must be 21 years old to sample the wines.

Pensacola JazzFest,April 10-11. Pensacola’s historic Seville Square hosts an event filled with great jazz performed by local and national talents. (850) 433-8382,

Pensacola Community Soulfest, April 10. Enjoy great soul music at this annual event held 10 a.m. to dusk in the West Pensacola Ballpark. (850) 438-4882.

White Sands Music Festival, April 15-17. Featuring food, arts and crafts vendors and non-stop jam sessions in the Farmer’s Opry House campground, the White Sands Music Festival prides itself on being good family fun. (850) 994-6000

Mullet Man Triathalon, April 17. Push yourself to the limit on this scenic and exhilarating course. (850) 429-0611,

Crawfish Festival on Portofino Boardwalk, TBD. Have fun in the sun with a ton of crawfish and live music throughout the weekend. (850) 932-1500 26th Annual Interstate Mullet Toss, April 23-25. Perdido Key’s Flora-Bama Lounge on the Florida-Alabama state line hosts this wacky annual tournament that has participants compete in tossing an actual mullet. Live music, food and drinks. Goombay Gulf Coast April 24. Feel the rhythm of some of the best regional and international reggae, calypso, steel drum bands and Caribbean music around, plus stilt-walkers, African dance and drum presentations, and a variety of activities. (850) 207-0206

26th Annual Pensacola Crawfish FiestaApril 30 - May 2. Held in historic Bartram Park, indulge at one of the largest crawfish boils in Florida. (850) 433-6512

Cox and Fiesta Children's Treasure Hunt May 15. Bayview Park, East Hill. Free. Children 10 and under hunt for toys and treasure while learning about Pensacola’s rich history. Hunt begins at 2 p.m. (850) 433-6512

7th Annual Outside Art FairMay 15-16. Celebrate the warm spring weather with nearly 100 local artists, live entertainment, good food and children’s activities at Bartram Park. (850) 432-9906

Gallery Night May 21. Enjoy an evening of arts and culture by touring downtown art galleries open 5-9 p.m., sponsored by the Arts Council of Northwest Florida. (850) 432-9906

Evenings in Olde Seville Square Thursdays May-Aug. This well-attended summer concert series in Seville Square features a variety of musical styles from big band to jazz and from Broadway to modern dance. (850) 438-6505.

Bands on the BeachTuesdays May-Oct. The beach’s favorite summer evening concert series with local musical favorites playing at the Gulfside Pavilion. (850) 932-2257
