Check Out the Pensacola Lighthouse

The Pensacola Lighthouse dating back to 1825, makes its home at the Naval Air Station.
The lighthouse attractions are among Pensacola's best. At 170 feet it is still in
operation. It's built of brick and has tours every Sunday afternoon, admission is free.
To the right is a historical sign in front of the lighthouse.
Personally, I have long standing memories of this lighthouse. Starting back in 1978, I
met a commercial snapper boat owner who regularly fished the Gulf of Mexico. I started
fishing with him and had a twenty year history of catching snapper on board his boat, the
Miss Aimee.
We would go out for several days at a time, roam all around the gulf south of Pensacola
looking for fish. When we had enough to sell, he would turn the boat to the north and we
would head back "up the hill." Most times I would take the wheel first and sat there for
several hours. After some time I would notice the lighthouse would always be straight off
the bow. How he ever did this I never knew.
I would watch the light get brighter as we drew closer and soon we would see lights from the
beach. The lighthouse also has the second set of range lights close by. These you can line
up to get a route through the pass at night.
Yes, I remember the lighthouse. Come see for yourself.
If you plan on visiting the Naval Air Museum then the lighthouse is on the way. There is ample parking and I'm sure the ghosts won't mind.
