Pensacola Recreation has Variety

Pensacola recreation is so attractive it's hard to find a starting place. I'll cover them all the way I've done before. There will be links where you can read about your favorite activity and plan your day(s) for the most fun.

Let me start here with golf, a favorite recreation of young and old. Since there are so many courses I will highlight several from various parts of the area. Since most who visit will be non-members I'll discuss only public courses. Some of these I have played over the years. Golf is a great Pensacola recreation. To the west you'll find. Perdido Bay Golf Club, a 7,072 yard par 72 course. The course rating is 74.2 with a slope of 133 on Bahia grass. This course opened in 1963. Osceola Municipal is a local favorite with 6405 yards and a par 72. Go across the Pensacola Bay bridge into Gulf Breeze and you will find Tiger Point. Their east course is a par 72 on a 7,041 yard Scottish Style layout. The west couse has 3414 yards with 9 holes and par 36.

Pensacola recreation includes fising and boating. Here you can choose your favorite type of fishing, be it fresh or salt water. If you have your own boat and are after some larger fish, then head out of the Pensacola pass for some gulf action. Pay attention to the weather and keep smaller boats closer to shore.

Navy Point Boat Ramp A good place to launch is Navy Point boat ramp(pictured). Follow the channel markers to the pass. After launch, head away from the bridge around the point. Go under the next bridge you see, continue between markers. Follow these to Pensacola Bay, don't leave the channel. When in the bay, go south to the channel and then west, this will get you to the pass. To get to this ramp from I-110. Go south to Cervantese Street and exit right. Follow this to "W" street, turn left and follow to the end. A little ways down is a R.R. track thats a little rough on boats so slow down. Turn right at next light, Navy Blvd. Follow to New Warrington Rd. intersection, go left and follow through the Hwy. 98 light. Go 2 - 4 blocks to a light with a convienence store on right. Turn right here, cross bridge, first left, next left and you are there. You can start your Pensacola recreation vacation right here.

You can fish off-shore on one of several party boats. Relax and let them take you there. There is also very good fishing closer in. Check out the bays and bayous for trout, redfish, and flounder. Fresh water action is good on Escambia River. Put in at the Swamphouse near the mouth. For freshwater fishing and camping, Bear Lake is a good choice.

If your Pensacola recreation time is spent scuba diving, you're in for a treat. The carrier Oriskany was recently sank in the gulf south of Pensacola. GPS Coordinates: N30:02.6, W87:00.4 or 30*02'38"N Lat, 87*00'25"W Lon This is 22.5 NM at 133* from Pensacola pass. Another favorite dive spot about 1 mile south of the pass is the old wooden boat Massachusettes. There are several RV parks throughout the area at various prices. I'll cover a couple of each price range. For the lower priced we have Big Lagoon State Park at $16 per night, and Lake Kristina in Milton, Fl. Mid price parks are Heritage Oaks and The Drifters. The high mark goes to Playa del Rio RV Resort and Yacht Club, a very nice site. The choice is yours.

Heritage Bike and Hiking Trail in Milton
Santa Marta, Colombia offers natural choices for Things To Do whether it's tan on a Caribbean beach, play in the snow or experience tropical jungles. Enjoy every season at any time of year in the middle of the tropics.

If you like bike and nature trails you can find plenty here. Big Lagoon Cookie Trail, 5 miles. University of West Florida, 5 miles. Ft. Pickens Trail, 6 miles. Scenic East Hill, 10K. You could choose the Blackwater Heritage Trail (pictured)that runs from Milton, Fl. to Whiting Field. It is a state maintained trail. These trails also support hiking.

For the kids, there is Sam,s Fun City. This park has 3 go cart tracks, bumper boats, mini golf, a train ride, bumper boats, laser tag, and an arcade. The park has received mixed reviews. Another fun kid place is Fast Eddies Fun Center. This park has many positive reviews.

Other things of interest for the whole could be bowling. There are several lanes to choose from but my favorite is Cordova Lanes. This is a very good family night out spot where everyone will be glad they came.

Bob's Canoe Rental on Munson Hwy.

Another outdoor sport that is very popular in this area is canoeing. Milton, Florida located some 15 miles east of Pensacola is the Canoe Capital of Florida. Adventures Unlimited is a very popular canoe service. Bob's Canoes (left) is another. Blackwater River State Park: They also have canoes for rent and canoe outings.
